SAE 1018 hot rolled flat bars suppliers in UAE

What is a AISI 1018 steel flat bar?

AISI 1018 Steel Grade is a low-carbon steels with a medium manganese content. It has good case hardening properties and excellent machinability. Its chemical composition includes 0.14 – 0.2% of Carbon, 98.81 – 99.26% of Iron, 0.6 – 0.9% of Manganese, 0.04% of Phosphorus, 0.05 % of Sulfur along with other elements in small quantities.

AISI 1018 Steel Flat Bar after going through a cold finishing works suitably for shafting and for other applications in industries that do not require high carbon steels’ great strength. They are known as 1018 Cold Drawn Steel Flat Bar. The cold rolled bars have a smooth dark grey oiled surface with sharply defined edges. While those steel bars that go through the hot rolling process are termed as SAE J403 1018 Hot Rolled Flat Bar or 1018 Hr Steel Flat Bar. These steel form an excellent candidate for most processing techniques.

What is 1018 steel flats used for?

1018 Steel is a low carbon content steels that offers good weldability, the balance of toughness, strength, and ductility, and produces a uniform and harder case. These 1018 Low Carbon Steel Flats are considered the best steels for carburized parts as they have significant mechanical properties.

When carburized, steel products such as 1018 steel flats offers high surface hardness, softcore to part, improved machining characteristics, and a high Brinell hardness measure. It is used in the manufacture of worms, dog pins, liners, machinery parts, special bolts, ratchets, chain pins, oil tool slips, tie rods, anchor pins, studs, etc. It is also used to improve drilling, machining, threading, and punching processes and prevent cracking in severe bends.

Is AISI 1018 flat rod a structural steel?

Structural Steel refers to the type of steels used in the formation of different structures from a steel grade which is used during the manufacture of buildings and is used extensively in industries. Structural steels, however, are versatile types of carbon steel that have a good weight and strength balance. By weight, structural steel has a carbon content of up to 2.1%.

AISI 1018 flat rod being a low-content carbon steel is not a structural steel. Steel Grade 1018 has a machinability that is graded at 78% of B1112. They are commonly used in high-volume screw machine parts applications as well as materials like Shafts, Spindles, Pins, Rods, Sprocket assemblies, etc.

In a furnace, AISI 1018 hot rolled steel flats is heated to 870°C to 910°C and then let to cool using various conditions in the Middle East countries

Is SAE 1018 flat bars a hard steel?

1018 Steel Grade, when cold rolled, gains a higher tensile and yield strength compared to hot rolled bars. This is how the strength and hardness are increased in the steel.

SAE 1018 Flat Bars have a Brinell Hardness of 126 (metric). They offer an ultimate tensile strength of 440 MPa(63800 psi) and a yield strength of 370 MPa (53700 psi). It can be considered as hard steel but their properties differ as they go through various processes while heat treatment.

From 1/2″ to 10″ in thickness, AISI 1018 flat bar and 1018 cold finished flat bars offers great strength at factory prices in a range of 2mm to 150mm

Is C1018 flat bar good for welding?

AISI 1018 steel grade is mild/low carbon steel and therefore, they can be instantly welded by all the conventional welding processes. However, welding is not recommended for AISI 1018 mild/low carbon steel when it is carbonitrided and carburized.

C1018 Flat Bar being Low-Carbon steel, therefore, also works in the same process. It is not recommended for the process of welding when it is carburized. For the welding of such Flat Bars or Rods like SAE1018 Flat Rod, low carbon welding electrodes are used. Post-heating and preheating are not necessary, although pre-heating can be performed for sections over 50 mm.
