a335 gr p91 pipe has pressure capacities denominated by their schedules. The higher the schedule, the higher the pressure capacities of the pipe are. There are schedules 20 through Schedule XXS. The schedule is directly correlating to the a335 p91 material pipe wall thickness.

p91 pipe is of a higher grade than the P9 grade. The P9 grade has 415MPa minimum tensile strength and 205MPa minimum yield strength whereas the P91 grade has 585MPa minimum tensile strength and 415MPa minimum yield strength. The ASTM a335 gr p91 pipes have high corrosion resistance and temperature resistance as well.

sa 335 p91 has high strength so that it can withstand high-impact pressure and allow high-speed fluid flow inside the pipes. The p91 chemical composition allows the metal to be ductile to a certain extent. The high chromium content provides additional corrosion resistance. However, the material composition also provides extra hardness. The hardness is also improved by heat treatment. This makes the pipe less ductile than the lower grades.

The metallic compositions and alloying processes are centuries old. The p91 chrome pipe composition originated from different high alloy materials. When high alloy materials with a high concentration of chromium or molybdenum were used, the function of each alloying material was known. From this, each different alloy was created with lesser quantities of the elements, but in larger numbers to add more functions to the alloys. The p91 material specification states that 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum in the composition of this grade.

The sample is then taken out of the environment and examined for cracks.
