What is C45 round bar?

A C45 round bar is a type of medium carbon steel that has high hardness and strength, as well as good ductility and wear resistance. It has excellent machinability characteristics and is suitable for the production of components such as shafts, axles, gears, bolts, and studs. The alloy has low hardenability properties which allow it to be hardened only to small sections and makes it an ideal choice for applications where parts are subjected to moderate loads. A C45 Round Bar is a medium carbon steel grade, generally supplied in cold drawn or turned and polished condition. It is characterized by good weldability and high strength.

What is Yield Strength Of C45 steel bars?

The stress at which a material undergoes irreversible deformation when it is subjected to an applied load is referred to as the material’s yield strength. C45 steel bars have a yield strength of 45,000 psi. A material can resist the application of a load without breaking or undergoing plastic deformation in any way. About 570 megapascals (MPa) is the yield strength of C45 steel bars (KSI). The yield strength of C45 steel bars is the maximum stress that can be applied before it begins to change shape permanently. This capacity is reached at a lower point than the tensile strength and is usually reported in N/mm2 or ksi (1000 lb/in2).

What is hardness of C45 material?

C45 is a type of steel that has medium strength and outstanding tensile qualities along with good machinability. C45 round steel is typically supplied in the black hot rolled form, but it may also be given in the normalized condition on occasion. Regardless of the condition, the typical tensile strength range for this material is 570–700 Mpa, and the Brinell hardness range is 170–210.

What is C45 steel Heat Treatment?

  • Preheat the C45 steel uniformly and slowly to 800-850°C
  • After preheating, the temperature of the C45 steel is raised to 980-1030°C and held until it is uniform throughout the section.
  • After achieving uniformity in temperature, heat up to the austenitizing temperature which is 830 – 860°C.
  • Soak at this temperature for about 45 minutes per 25 mm of thickness or as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Immediately quench in oil or water at a suitable temperature (according to the manufacturer’s recommendation).
  • Tempering of C45 steel can be done at 205-370°C (400-700°F) for 1-2 hours depending on desired hardness.
  • Cool in the air after the tempering process is complete.

Application of carbon steel C45 bar

  • Automotive Industry: Carbon Steel C45 bar is widely used in the automotive industry for components such as axle shafts, crankshafts, and other components.
  • Mining Industry: Carbon Steel C45 bar is often used in drilling machines, diggers, and pumps where high levels of wear are expected.
  • Construction Industry: The low cost and high strength of Carbon Steel C45 make it ideal for use in the construction industry. It can be used for reinforcement in beams and columns, or used to fabricate staircases, balconies, etc.,
  • Marine Industry: Due to its corrosion resistance properties, Carbon Steel C45 bar is an ideal choice for marine equipment such as pumps and valves which must operate under harsh conditions with saltwater exposure.
