Threaded Plug

The hex head plugs can be manufactured using different material types. This includes stainless steel, brass, copper, carbon, stainless steel, and so on. A stainless steel hex head plug has a superior chemical composition that allows them to have outstanding corrosion and oxidation resistance. A carbon steel threaded plug has a higher carbon content but is slightly weaker and prone to corrosive environments. The robust copper threaded plug is highly ductile and can handle a range of pressure and temperature conditions. Finally, the versatile brass threaded hex plug exhibits enhanced strength and optimum performance.

Difference between BSPP plug NPT plugs? Can you tap BSP to NPT?

A BSPP brass threaded hex plug is a parallel thread fitting. It makes use of a bonded ring to seal the sealing. The BSPP fitting has a longer male thread and a copper washer is squeezed in it. An NPT threaded pipe plug has a male adapter that wedges into the female thread. They seal easily due to the roundness principle.

You cannot tap an npt pipe plug with a BSP pipe plug. This is because NPT threads have threads with pointy peaks and valleys at an angle of 60 degrees. A BSP threaded hex head plug has threads that are round at a 55 degree angle.

How can you identify a thread type?

Threads are divided into six main types. This includes NPT/NPTF, metric parallel, UN/UNF, BSPT (BSP, tapered), BSPP (BSP, parallel) and metric tapered. You will need two instruments to start off. A pitch gauge to find the distance between the crests of threads and a caliper to measure its diameter.

The first step is to find tapered and parallel threads by looking at the diameter of the thread. NPT/NPTF, BSPT, and tapered metric pipe plug are tapered. UN/UNF, BSPP, and metric parallel are parallel threaded. Next, determine the pitch of the thread and the thread size. Further, designate the thread as per industry standards.

Is R thread compatible with G thread?

A male R thread can be screwed into an R and G thread. The Male G thread in metric threaded plugs is only screwed into a female G thread.

What is a Threaded Plug?

A threaded plug is a fitting that is inserted at the end of the pipeline. These plugs help in terminating the flow of media in the system. The round head plug provides protection to different pipes and other equipment from corrosion and damage. The versatile square head plug has a versatile single piece design and is easy to install and dismantle when the time is right. The threaded hex plug is an easy and cost effective to plug your pipe.

When Should You Use A Threaded Pipe Plug?

Threaded pipe plugs are appropriate for the majority of pipe endstopping applications. They are convenient, long-lasting, and simple to install and remove using commonly available tools. Pipe plugs, on the other hand, require an internally threaded pipe, which is not always available.

What are pipe plugs used for?

Pipe Plugs are primarily used for the following purposes:

  • Obstructing/sealing the flow in the pipe Temporarily;
  • Looking for leaks in the pipe
  • Flow Bypass/Diverting the Flow

Threaded Pipe Plugs Vs Pipe Caps

Pipe plugs have male threads and are screwed into the end of a pipe internally. Pipe caps, on the other hand, have female threads and are screwed onto the outside of the pipe. Pipe plugs and pipe caps serve the same purpose; however, pipe plugs can be used in places where a cap over a pipe’s end is not possible.
