Double-eccentric butterfly valves

Double-eccentric butterfly valves

What is a double-eccentric butterfly valve?

Valves are controlling components in pipelines. They are used to perform flow regulation in pipes. The Double eccentric butterfly valves are used to regulate the flow by opening and closing the lines. These are also known as high performance valves. They has a shaft mounted behind the seat where the shaft is also mounted slightly off the center of the pipe. This design allows for the high performance and meet the requirements of the high performing applications. They can work up to 500° C and up to 51 bar of pressure.

Is double offset butterfly valve bidirectional?

These valves are bidirectional. The Double flanged eccentric butterfly valve size ranges from 2 inches to 120 inches. There are different leakage options such as class vi for ptfe, viton soft seats, epdm and others. The flow direction can be preferred to be from the stem. The preferred flow direction allows for less resistance whereas the flow from the opposite direction will cause more friction and result in a pressure drop.

Double block and bleed butterfly valves are available in many end connections such as buttweld or socket weld, flanged or threaded

Does flow direction matter in a double flanged eccentric butterfly valve?

Double offset butterfly valves are operational in both directions. So the flow direction doesn’t matter. But there is a preferred direction of flow. This is ofen in the direction of the shaft from the centerline of the pipe. Since the shaft is located slightly off the centerline, the flow can be better from the shaft side than the other side. The difference is that in the preferred direction, the pressure drop will be minimal whereas the opposite direction has much friction.

Double flanged eccentric butterfly valve to EN 593 for neutral liquids like drinking water and treated waste water free from solids and fibrous impurities to max 70°C.

What is the difference between concentric and eccentric double-offset butterfly valves?

The concentric and eccentric models are defined by the shape of the disc or the butterfly wings. The Double eccentric high performance butterfly valves have eccentrically shaped wings whereas the concentric valves have concentric wings. The shape of the wings grabs the liquid and therefore results in pressure drop deviations inside the valve and throughout the operation. The concentric valves have the stem at the center while the eccentric valves have more stems on the offset from the center.

Buy a double block and bleed butterfly valves & double offset high-performance butterfly valves in class 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, 2500, and 4500 as per American standards

Can a double block and bleed butterfly valves be installed backward?

Yes, the Double block and bleed butterfly valves are designed to facilitate the drain and bleed operations in both directions. It is usually accomplished by having two or more ball valves and a bleed valve in the middle. This setup is used by engineers to bleed or drain one side of the pipe completely. The Double concentric butterfly valves are used in this configuration so that the pipe can be completely drained and the pipe system can be maintained or repaired when needed. So the system allows backward flow without the need for any additional modifications.

How does a double flange type butterfly valve work?

Double offset high performance butterfly valves work with the same principle as the other butterfly valves. The only difference is that the double-flange valves are stronger and connected to the system. The gate is connected to the stem and the stem is connected to the handwheel. The turn of the handwheel facilitates the turning of the gate inside the valve body and thus allowing the opening and closure of the valve.
