EN19 round bar, or emergency number, is a British-created European standard to identify engineering steel as per its specification, composition, and grade. The number that follows EN specifies the steel quality, carbon, and other steel composition. For example, E1 to E3 refers to low carbon content, E4 to E18 mid carbon, and E19-E24 high carbon.

Also, it has a high yield strength of 415 MPa and 60200 psi, along with an elongation break in 50 mm of 25.7%. And it has a Brinell hardness of 197 and Rockwell B hardness of 92 to be suitable for many heavy-loading applications like engine gearboxes.

How do you weld en19 rod?

It is easy to weld the EN 19 rod using all conventional techniques. But if welded in the heat-treated condition, there may be changes in the mechanical properties. Hence, a few post-weld heat treatments are essential to keep mechanical properties like tensile strength intact.

The heat treatment involves annealing at 845 C, followed by immediate quenching in oil. And before hardening, it is essential to normalize by heating at 913 c for a long period, followed by air cooling.

Is EN19 high carbon steel bars?

Yes. EN 19 bars are carbon steel with a maximum carbon content not exceeding 0.45%. But carbon steel En-19 bars are manganese steel because of more manganese between 0.50 to 0.80 %. Also added with chromium for excellent corrosion resistance and molybdenum for strength, EN-19 bars are best for many applications.
