F6NM Round Bar

What is F6NM round bar?

F6NM is a martensitic type of stainless steel alloy. It is widely known for its exceptional mechanical properties like ductility, weldability, and superior corrosion resistance. The F6NM Round Bar has a composition of Carbon, Chromium, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Phosphorus, Sulphur, and Silicon. The alloy has an Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of 790 MPa. The F6NM Material has superb mechanical properties that make them versatile for various applications. However, the standard applications are seats, gates, flanges, tubular, etc.

F6NM is a martensitic stainless steel alloy. The composition of the alloy includes 11.5-14% Chromium, 3.5-5.5% Nickel, and 0.5-1% Molybdenum. F6NM stainless steel bars are known to have zero notch ductility due to the presence of Molybdenum and Nickel. The presence of nickel in the AISI 415 F6NM Round Bar, the alloy has improved mechanical properties. The tensile strength of the alloy is 790 Mpa, and the yield strength is 620 Mpa. It also has superior corrosion resistance, especially in chloride environments. The alloy also shows properties of ferromagnetism. Hence, they are primarily applicable for use in oil and gas, petrochemical, power plants, turbines, hydroelectric power, and reactors.

Other heat treatments like annealing can be done at 600 to 650 degrees Celsius; the alloy is further cooled. The hardening process is done at a temperature range of 1100 to 1050 degrees Celsius. The hardening process is followed by quenching and tempering at the abovementioned temperatures. The alloy can also be welded by pre-heating it at 150 degrees Celsius.

Yes, F6NM Steel is a Martensitic type of alloy. It has exceptional weldability, ductility, and high corrosion resistance. The ASTM A182 F6NM Steel Bar has a structure that includes body-centered tetragonal crystalline with an addition of carbon. The significant difference between austenitic and martensitic stainless steel is the higher amount of carbon in the latter. The high carbon content comes in handy as it becomes resistant to corrosion and is extremely tough.
