Common uses for SS 310S Rounds include valves, fasteners, fittings, cooking utensils and equipment, automotive parts, process equipment, food industry machinery, and heat exchangers. SS 310S Rounds are used in a range of other applications as well. Additionally, the alloy exhibits remarkable oxidation resistance even when exposed to high-temperature atmospheres. In most cases, the SS 310S round bar is put to use in conditions in which the alloys’ applications require them to be present in corrosive environments that contain moisture. These wet corrodents have temperatures that fall within a range that is considerably lower than what is conventionally understood to be high temperatures.

The 310S Stainless Steel Bar is non-magnetic. This type of stainless steel has a lower percentage of nickel and contains more chromium than other stainless steel. In general, 310S stainless steel bars are non-magnetic because they contain lower levels of carbon than other grades of stainless steel. This decreased level of carbon causes less austenite to be formed and the magnetic properties of the material are suppressed. Additionally, the low nickel content present in 310S stainless steel bars also reduces their magnetic characteristics, further decreasing any potential magnetism that could arise. The presence of nickel in the alloy also gives it superior corrosion resistance properties when compared to other grades of stainless steel.

The typical characteristics of ASTM A276 Type 310S Rod hardness include strong temperature resistance as well as excellent strength when subjected to high temperatures. The ASTM A276 Type 310S Rod has a Rockwell hardness rating of around 95 HRB, which is the normal value (Hardness Rockwell B). It has a minimum hardness of 183 on the Brinell scale and a maximum hardness of C50 on the Rockwell scale.

The surface finish shall be within the following range: 3.2 to 6.3 microns Ra (125 to 250 microinches).

  • Dimensional tolerances are +/- 0.005” for 1/4″ to 2” sizes and +/- 0.010” for 2-1/2” to 3” sizes.
  • Surface finish requirements should be ≤125 μinch.
  • Straightness tolerance should be within 0.015” per foot.
