This Steel Bar is highly corrosion-resistant and robust, making it a perfect material for applications where strength and resistance to corrosive environments are paramount. This type of stainless steel is most often used in industries such as medical, chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing. It’s also a common choice for electrical components due to its low electrical resistivity. Furthermore, this bar has an attractive finish which makes it popular for architectural purposes such as railing systems or facade cladding. In summary, the 317L Stainless Steel Bar can be used for various applications thanks to its combination of strength and corrosion resistance.

What is the difference between stainless steel 317L round rod hardening and tempering conditions?
The rod is made from austenitic chromium-nickel molybdenum alloy with a higher molybdenum content than stainless steel rods. The main difference between Stainless Steel 317L and other alloys in the same grade is its increased resistance to chlorine and chlorides such as salt. Additionally, it offers improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance when exposed to strong chemicals. Because of Stainless Steel 317L rod’s high corrosion protection properties, this rod is ideal for many industries such as food processing, paper manufacturing, power plants, and petrochemical plants. It can also be used for outdoor construction applications with high chloride environments.
The first step, hardening, involves heating the rod up to a high temperature until it is red hot, then allowing it to cool quickly in water or oil. This creates a hardened layer outside the rod, which provides increased strength and durability. The second step, known as tempering, involves reheating the rod to a lower temperature to soften the hardened material. The goal of tempering is to increase flexibility and decrease brittleness. After hardening and tempering, 317L Stainless Steel Rods are usually more resistant to corrosion and wear than their untreated counterparts. These rods can be highly versatile and customisable.

What is peeled and Reeled 317L stainless steel bar?
This type of bar stock has been peeled and reeled and is used at many places. It is known for its superior corrosion resistance and strength, making it a popular choice in many industries. The “L” designation on the grade indicates low carbon content for increased corrosion resistance, and the 317 refers to the combination of elements in the alloy. The Peeling and Reeling process improves the material’s formability and ensures no laminations or defects that could cause future issues. This makes it an ideal SS 317L Bar for projects requiring a reliable and high-performance stainless steel bar product.

ASTM A479 SS 317L bar tolerances
The straightness tolerance of ASTM A479 SS 317L Bar’s cold-finishing should not exceed 1/8″ per foot. In addition, hot-finished bars should have a maximum variation from straightness of 0.002” times the overall length in inches, and there are no size tolerances. Whereas ASTM A276 Type 317L Stainless Steel Round Bars are a highly versatile material that offers superior corrosion resistance, excellent heat resistance and strength. Their properties make them ideal for these demanding industrial applications. They have been widely used in a range of industries due to their high level of corrosion resistance as well as their malleability.
