An 8D bend is a pipe bend that has a bending radius that is 8 times the outer diameter of the bend. The bends can come in different bending radii and different makes such as welded and seamless bends. The 8D Seamless Pipe Bend is made as a seamless bend with a bending radius of 8 times the outer diameter of the bend. For applications that have thick liquids flowing inside the pipeline, shorter and sudden turns will obstruct the fluid flow. To avoid this, larger radius bends such as the 8D Bend are used. The minimum thickness of the bend is defined as per ASME B31.5 §504.2.1 specifications. For regular pipes, the minimum thickness for Long Radius 8D Bend and short radius ones for hot forming is 30mm. It changes according to the material composition and the standards. The minimum thickness standard is to make sure that the pipe is not destroyed or deformed during the hot forming process.

8D Pipe Bend can be made by different methods of production. One such method is hot forming. The hot forming is applied on larger diameter pipes because they cannot be bent with equal thickness through cold forming methods. The hot forming involves heating up the Fabricated 8D Bending through an induction coil. The pipe piece is placed on the hydrostatic draw and in between two levers to maintain the correct length.
